(Brazil, 2003, 85 min. In Portuguese with English subtitles)

This charming and engaging film follows a family of seven as they bicycle 2,000 miles from Paraíba in the poverty-stricken Northeast of Brazil to Rio de Janeiro in pursuit of a better life. Based on the true story of an unemployed truck driver who takes his wife and five children on this road trip by bike, the film is an honest portrayal of an unusual story. With soulful performances by an outstanding cast, Amorim depicts a family bonded by their love as they face strenuous circumstances. Locations are magically and imaginatively explored in this odyssey where the characters experience solidarity and indifference, aggressiveness and cordiality in their quest for a decent life. An unforgettable story of dreams and hope. A Film Movement Release.

“Debuting helmer Vicente Amorim, who is a vet assistant director and documaker, provides a determined forward movement which gives the saga uplift and punch. Between them, Moura and Abreu have appeared in many of contemporary Brazil's highest profile pics and their work here is solid and appealing.” — Eddie Cockrell, Variety

“Amorim and screenwriter David Franca Mendes are efficient, inclusive storytellers who do justice not only to a struggling family but to the working-class Brazilians.” — Chuck Wilson, LA Weekly
