Ana, a bored, wealthy housewife is not pleased when her husband rents out their garden to a soap opera production while he is out of town. However, in her lonely solitude, she begins to follow the goings on and soon becomes just as involved as her two maids. When she is accidentally taken for an actress, she winds up cast in a plum role – much to the dismay of her staff and the other actresses. As the set gradually becomes dominated by gossip, intrigue and blackmail, the boundary between the real world and the make-believe soap opera world begins to blur. Soon Ana finds herself entangled in a real-life soap opera which she needs to resolve before her husband comes home. Alvaro Velarde’s colorful and campy debut feature evokes the satirical humor of the early films of Pedro Almodovar.
