THE BALLAD OF OPPENHEIMER PARK Wins at the Riviera Maya Film Fest

The Ballad of Oppenheimer Park

The Ballad of Oppenheimer Park

The Ballad of Oppenheimer Park by Juan Manuel Sepúlveda was the winner of Kukulkán Award, the top prize at the 5th edition of the Riviera Maya Film Festival, which took place June 24-30 in Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres in Mexico.

The Ballad of Oppenheimer Park is a documentary film that celebrates the odyssey of Harley Prosper, Janet Brown and Bear Raweater (exiles from the Canadian reservations), as they shoot a film inside the park where they gather to drink every day. Using their everyday life and their long history of oppression, they turn their daily drinking ritual into a defiant celebration.

The jury, composed by filmmakers José Luis Torres Leiva, Gust Van den Berghe, Mike Ott and film critic Fernanda Solórzano, also gave a Special Mention to Epitafio, by Yulene Olaizola and Rubén Imaz. The Youth Jury chose Tatiana Huezo’s Tempestad as the winner of the Kukulkán Award, and gave a Special Mention to Margarita by Bruno Santamaría.
