[Exclusive] Poster Premiere of CPH: DOX Brazilian Selection EROS, the Debut Feature by Rachel Daisy Ellis

Brazilian-British filmmaker Rachel Daisy Ellis has unveiled the poster for her debut feature Eros, having its international premiere this week in the Next:Wave Award competition at the CPH: DOX Film Festival in Denmark. The documentary, which had its world premiere at the Tiradentes Film Festival, delves into the depths of one of Brazil’s most notorious and cherished institutions: the love motel.

An integral part of the urban landscape and the daily life of Brazilians, motels are associated with erotic transgression, but also with romantic love. Through intimate and at times erotic footage, filmed by the participants themselves, Eros presents ten stories from within the four walls of 10 different motel suites.

The compilation of stories provides a prism into the unique and singular ways in which people conduct their intimate and romantic relationships and how these behaviors reflect on broader social norms and realities. The film reflects on the immense diversity that exist in ways of relating, questioning preconceived ideas, provoking the spectator to reflect on their own ideas about intimacy and romantic love.

Ellis is co-founder of the Brazilian film production company Desvia with her partner Gabriel Mascaro. Her work encompasses all stages of production, from development to distribution, and is especially focused on international co-productions. She produced several of Mascaro’s films, including Boi Neon (2015) and Divino Amor (2019), and also co-produced Benjamin Naishtat’s Rojo (2018) and Tatiana Huezo’s Prayers for the Stolen (2021), among other co-productions. Her work has been screened in competition at some of the most important international film festivals including IDFA, Venice, Locarno, Sundance, and Toronto, winning over one hundred awards and critical acclaim.

The 21st edition of CHP: DOX is taking place March 13-24.
