The Argentine film project Borom Taxi, to be the debut feature by Andrés Guerberoff, has won the Cinema Tropical prize at the 11th annual edition of LABEX, the Latin American film lab for development and production, which took place August 13 - 16 in Buenos Aires. The Cinema Tropical Award consists of a personalized film festival and distribution consultancy for the filmmaker.
In addition to the Cinema Tropical Award, Borom Taxi was also awarded with five other prizes for sound postproduction and sound mix, color correction, transfer to DCP, English subtitles, and poster design. The jury members comprised by Sandra Gugliota, Sol Miraglia and Francisco D´Eufemia decide to award Guerberoff’s project for its “sensitivity in portraying a particular universe that he accesses with devices that blur the limits of fiction and documentary, opening a unique and unknown space for the public through a character committed to the film through innovative production methods, while sustaining a precise cinematographic style.”
The work-in-progress jury decided to give the top prize ex aequo to another Argentine project El maestro by Cristina Tamagnini. This other project received in-kind awards for sound postproduction, DCP mastering, trailer postproduction, and poster design. Additionally, three other Argentine projects received a Special Mention: Las Ruinas Nuevas by Manuel Embalse, Una casa lejos by Mayra Bottero, and Malón by Lucila Podestá.
In the Development category the jury composed by gave the top prize to Mater Putta by Paula Compagucci, and gave two Special Mentions, to Daragaia Lida by Laura Barile from Brazil, and Reinterferencia by Felipe Barriga from Chile.
