The Night of the Beast by Mauricio Leiva-Cock

The Night of the Beast / La noche de la bestia, the debut feature by director Mauricio Leiva-Cock leads the nominations for the 10th edition of the Macondo Awards presented by the Colombian Academy of Cinematography Arts and Sciences. The comedy film nabbed nine nominations including for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Cinematography.

The Night of the Beast is a comedy that tells the story of two young metalheads coasting aimlessly through Bogota’s alleys on the day of Iron Maiden’s first-ever concert in Colombia. Their day is wrecked and their friendship is tested when hoodlums steal their most valued possession: the tickets to see their favorite band perform live.

The nonfiction film La Casa de Mama Icha by Óscar Molina was nominated for five Macondo Awards, including for Best Documentary. The other three nominated films for Best Documentary are El film justifica los medios by Juan Jacobo Del Castillo, On the Other Side / Del otro lado by Iván Guarnizo, and Suspensión by Joaquín Uribe.

The winners of the 10th Macondo Awards will be announced in a ceremony on November 5 at the Jorge Eliécer Gaitán Theater in Bogota.
