Ana Cristina Barragán's ALBA Tops Ecuador's Colibrí Awards

Alba, the debut feature by Ana Cristina Barragán, was the top winner at the 3rd edition of the Colibrí Awards presented by Ecuador’s Corporation of Film Producers and Audiovisual Promoters and the Ecuadorean Academy of Film and Audiovisual Arts. The coming of age drama was the winner of three of the main awards for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

Gabriel ‘s Sacachún was the winner of the Best Documentary Award, while in the acting categories the winners were Mónica Mancero for Best Actress for her performance in her self-directed film Azules turquesas, and Victor Arauz for Best Actor in Diego Araujo’s Black Hole / Agujero negro.

Juan Sebastián Jácome’s Ashes / Cenizas was the winner of three awards, for Best Cinematography, Best Original Music, and Best Sound Design, while Gabriela Calvache’s La Mala Noche was the winner of the Best Production Design Award, and Sebastián Cordero’s Such Is Life in the Tropics / Sin muertos no hay carnaval was the winner of the Best Editing Award.

Other winners include Alberto Muenala’s Killa for Best Film in an Indigenous Language, Carlos Sosa’s El Capulí for Best Animated Film, and the Peruvian film Wiñaypacha by Óscar Catacora for Best Latin American Film. Additionally, the Colibrí Awards presented three honorary awards to actress María Rosa”Toty” Rodríguez, film professional Jimmy "Rambo" Pazmiño, and cinematographer Enrique Chediak.
