Argentina's TRENQUE LAUQUEN Tops International Cinephile Society Awards

The Argentine film Trenque Lauquen by Laura Citarella was the winner of four International Cinephile Awards, presented by the online group made up of approximately 150 accredited journalists, film scholars, historians and other industry professionals who cover film festivals and events on five continents. The Argentine production was presented with the Awards for Best Picture, Best Director (ex aequo with Albert Serra for Pacifiction, Best Screenplay, and Best Ensemble Cast.

Starring Laura Paredes, Ezequiel Pierri, Rafael Spregelburd, Cecilia Rainero, Juliana Muras, Elisa Carricajo, and Verónica Llinás, Trenque Lauquen is a four-hour film, presented in two parts. The film follows two men, who take the road looking for a woman that vanished, as they both love her. Why did she leave? Each one of them has his own suspicions, and hides them from the other one who - mysteriously - never truly becomes his rival. Neither is right - but is anyone?

This sudden run away becomes the hidden core of a number of fictions that the film delicately weaves together: the secret of the heart of another woman, lost as well, many years ago; the secret of the life of a village in the countryside, governed by a supernatural incident that nobody seems to perceive; the secret of the plains, which never ceases to spread and devour everything, like the shadows that invade the world after the twilight hour.

Trenque Lauquen had its world premiere in the official Golden Lion competition at the Venice Film Festival last September, and it had its North American premiere at the New York Film Festival. Cinema Guild acquired the Argentine film for U.S. distribution, with an expected theatrical release later this year.
