The Venice Film Festival announced today the seven members of the jury for its 79th annual edition taking place August 31 - September 10, which will be presided by American actress Julianne Moore, and it will include Argentine filmmaker Mariano Cohn.
Born in Buenos Aires, director, screenwriter and producer Cohn has worked closely with director Gastón Duprat, co-directing the documentary films Enciclopedia (1998), Yo, Presidente (2004), Living Stars (2014), Todo sobre el asado (2016), and the fiction films The Artist / El artista (2008), The Man Next Door / El hombre de al lado (2009), Querida voy a comprar cigarrillos y vuelvo (2011), The Distinguished Citizen / El ciudadano ilustre (2016), and Official Competition / Competencia oficial (2021), which is currently playing in American screens, distributed by IFC Films.
In 2019 Cohn directed the crime thriller 4x4. His work has been screened at numerous international film festivals including Venice, Sundance, New Directors/New Films, Toronto, and Tribeca among others. Cohn and Duprat signed this year with American agency CAA.
In addition to Moore, Cohn will also be joined in the Venice jury by British author and screenwriter Kazuo Ishiguro (Never Let Me Go), Italian director Leonardo di Costanzo, Spanish director and producer Rodrigo Sorogoyen (Mother), French director Audrey Diwan (Happening), and Iranian actor Leila Hatami (A Separation).
