The Berlin International Film Festival has announced the first titles for its 2026 edition, including three Latin American films from Brazil and Mexico. Two Brazilian titles will premiere in the Generation Kplus section: Eliza Capai’s The Fabulous Time Machine / A Fabulosa Máquina do Tempo and Priscilla Kellen’s Papaya. The Mexico–U.S. co-production Jaripeo, directed by Efraín Mojica and Rebecca Zweig, will screen in the Panorama Dokumente section.
Set in the arid Brazilian hinterland, The Fabulous Time Machine follows girls poised between their mothers’ difficult pasts and their own fantastic dreams for the future. In a place where men are still seen as giants compared to women, the girls cross the threshold from childhood into adolescence.
Priscilla Kellen’s Papaya follows a tiny seed in the Amazon rainforest that dreams of flying and must keep moving to avoid taking root. When it discovers the power of its roots, it sparks a revolution that transforms its world and unexpectedly fulfills its dreams.
Jaripeo journeys into the hypermasculine rodeos of Michoacán, Mexico, delving into memory, queer desire, and longing, and leading to a reckoning with the wounds and beauty of a home left behind. The film will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
The 76th Berlinale will take place from February 12 to 22, 2026, in Berlin, Germany.
