Carlos A. Gutiérrez Invited to Serve as a Juror at the Tribeca Festival

Cinema Tropical’s Cofounding Executive Director Carlos A. Gutiérrez has been a selected as a juror for the 2022 Tribeca Festival. He’ll serve in the jury for Best New Narrative Director competition along with actor Debra Winger and Penelope Bartlett, Director of Programming for the Criterion Channel. The 2022 edition of the festival will take place June 8—19 in New York City.

A native of Mexico City, Gutiérrez cofounded Cinema Tropical in 2001 with Monika Wagenberg, the media arts non-profit organization, which has become the leading presenter and promoter of Latin American cinema in the U.S. As a guest curator, Gutiérrez has presented several series at numerous institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, Film at Lincoln Center, the Guggenheim Museum, Film at BAM, and Anthology Film Archives.

In 2007, Gutiérrez co-curated the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar and currently serves as artistic director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s Latin Wave film festival and as co-director of Cinema Tucsón. He sits in Film Forum’s Board of Directors and has served as a juror for various film festivals including Mar del Plata, New Orleans, Morelia, Seattle, and SANFIC. He has served as both expert nominator and panelist for the Sundance Documentary Fund, Tribeca Film Institute’s Latin America Media Arts Fund, and the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative.

Other jury members of the 2022 Tribeca Festival include actors Anne Archer, Aidan Quinn, Rosanna Arquette, and Daryl Hannah, and filmmakers Alex Winter, Nanfu Wang, Joshua Marston, Darren Aronofsky, among others.
