Cuban Actress Ana de Armas Nabs SAG Award Nomination for BLONDE

Cuban actress Ana de Armas was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her role as Marilyn Monroe in the biopic film Blonde by Andrew Dominik, for which had also received a Golden Globe nomination.

Born in Havana, de Armas began her career appearing in television and film projects in Cuba and Spain and made her English language debut in the 2015 psychological thriller Knock Knock in 2015. Her performance as nurse Marta Cabrera in Knives Out in 2019 earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Her performance as Marilyn Monroe has earned her general acclaim, and the SAG Award nomination builds momentum for her for an Oscar nomination.

Even though Mexican actor Diego Calva did not secured a SAG nomination for his role as Manny Torres in the Hollywood extravaganza film Babylon, the production directed by Damien Chazelle was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

In the television category, Latinx actress Jenna Ortga, of Mexican and Puerto Rican descend, was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role as Wednesday Addams in Wednesday.

The winners of the 29th annual SAG Awards will be announced at a ceremony on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
