Guillermo del Toro became this evening the third Mexican to ever win the Golden Globe for Best Director for his film The Shape of Water, after Alfonso Cuarón in 2014 and Alejandro González Iñárritu in 2016.
Del Toro's The Shape of Water lead this year's Golden Globes nominations with seven, but only took home two, the other award was for Best Score.
Coco directed by Lee Unkrich and co-directed by was the winner of the Golden Globe for Best Animation Feature. In its acceptance Unkrich dedicated the film to Mexico and its Day od the Dead traditions.
The Chilean film A Fantastic Woman by Sebastián Lelio, the only Latin American nominated for Best Foreign Film, went home empty handed as the German film In the Fade took the honors.
The 75th annual Golden Globes were presented this evening at a ceremony in Beverly Hills, California.
