Dominican-American Actress Zoe Saldaña Wins Golden Globe for EMILIA PÉREZ

Dominican-American actress Zoe Saldaña won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Female Actor for her performance in the French queer narco-musical Emilia Pérez, directed by Jacques Audiard. This marked her first Golden Globe nomination and win, beating fellow nominees Selena Gomez (her co-star in Emilia Pérez), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Ariana Grande (Wicked), and Isabella Rossellini (Conclave).

In Emilia Pérez, Saldaña portrays Rita, a Mexican lawyer hired for an unusual job: helping a notorious cartel boss retire and transition into living as a woman, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

With her trophy in hand, Saldaña was visibly emotional, tearing up as she thanked her cast, crew, and fellow nominees. “I know that [the Golden Globes] is a competition, but all I’ve seen is us showing up for and celebrating each other, and it’s just so beautiful,” she said.

Emilia Pérez received 10 Golden Globe nominations, the most ever for a musical or comedy film. The film also won the awards for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, Best Foreign Language Film, and “El Mal,” a song performed by Saldaña and composed by Camille Dalmais and Clément Ducol, took home the award for Best Original Song.

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards are being held this evening at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, California.
