The Dominican film Cocote by Nelson Carlo de los Santos Arias was the winner of the top prize for Best Film in the international competition at the 58th edition of Colombia's Cartagena Film Festival, while the award for Best Director was presented to the Paraguayan filmmaker Marcelo Martinessi for his debut feature The Heiresses / Las herederas

Cocote, winner of the Best Film in the Signs of Life competition at the last edition of the Locarno Film Festival, follows an evangelical Christian man has to participate in religious cults that clash with his beliefs while attending the burial of his father in his hometown.

The Costa Rican feature film We, the Stones / Nosotros, las piedras by Álvaro Torres Crespo was the winner of the Best Documentary and Brazilian filmmakers Claudia Priscilla and Kiko Goifman were awarded for Best Director in the documentary competition for their film Tranny Fag / Bixa Travesty.

The winners in the Colombian competition were Dawn / Amanecer by Carmen Torres for Best Film and Simon(è) Jaikiriuma Paetau and Thais Guisasola for Best Director for their debut feature The Whisper of the Jaguar / O Susurro do Jaguar. Laura Mora's Killing Jesús / Matar a Jesús was the winner of the Audience Award.

 The 58th edition of the Cartagena Film Festival took place February 28 - March 5 in Colombia.
