Ecocinema Brings Public Film Screenings to People in Latin America During the Pandemic

Ecocinema, the international traveling film platform powered by solar energy, has repurposed its infrastructure during the pandemic and has launched the initiative “Desde mi ventana” (From my Window) to bring public screenings to housing complexes in Latin America, in partnership with The Climate Reality Project Latin America.

During the quarantine, Ecocinema will set out a large inflatable film screening outside of the housing buildings in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and Panama City. They will transmit the sound through a signal on FM radio, so all of the inhabitants of the complex can tune in and watch the films from their windows.

“The aim of the initiative is to use cinema as a tool to transmit values, personal care recommendations and calls for collective action in vulnerable communities” says Miguel Ángel Mendoza, director of Ecocinema in Mexico.

The project is scheduled in three stages under the banner #TodosJuntos / #AllTogether. The first being the public screenings, the second stage will consist of the production of short films that document and talk about the experiences of overcoming and sustainable adaptation . The third stage, planned for after the sanitary emergency, entails an open-air cinema tour in public spaces, promoting social interaction.

The initiative kicked off last week in Cuernavaca, Mexico with a screening of the Mexican documentary film All of Me / Llévate mis amores by Arturo González Villaseñor, and Ecocinema has announced the screening of the documentary Intimate Battles / Batallas íntimas by Lucía Gajá, on domestic violence.
