Ecuador's María Campaña Ramia Joins IDFA's Programming Team

The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, IDFA—the world’s largest documentary film festival held annually since 1988—has announced that Ecuadorian film programmer, critic, filmmaker, and author María Campaña Ramia is joining the curatorial team of the festival as Associate Programmer.

Currently based in Rio de Janeiro, Campaña Ramia is a Programmer at Ambulante in Mexico. Previously she served as the Artistic Director of the International Documentary Film Festival Encuentros del Otro Cine – EDOC in Quito, Ecuador, and is now one of their board members.

In 2012 she co-edited the book El Otro Cine de Eduardo Coutinho and received a fellowship from the Flaherty Seminar. In 2015 she directed the short film Derivadas. A guest curator at the Moreira-Salles Institute, María has programmed showcases and festivals in Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia, and the United States, and has widely studied the cinema of Brazilian documentarian Coutinho.

Campaña Ramia will join the commission of IDFA’s flagship feature-length competition, and strengthen IDFA’s presence and outreach in Latin America.
