The Match Factory has unveiled a first teaser for New Order / Nuevo órden, the most recent film by director Michel Franco (April’s Daughter, Chronic), which will be participating in the main competition for the Golden Lion at the 77th edition of the Venice Film Festival. The Mexican film will have its world premiere on Thursday, September 10.
Starring Naian González Norvind, Diego Boneta, Mónica del Carmen, Fernando Cuautle, Darío Yazbek, Roberto Medina, Patricia Bernal, Lisa Owen, Enrique Singer, Eligio Meléndez and Gustavo Sánchez Parra, the film will have its North American premiere at the 45th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival later in September.
Described as a riveting and suspenseful dystopian drama, in Franco’s sixth feature film a lavish upper-class wedding goes awry in an unexpected uprising of class warfare that gives way to a violent coup d’état. As seen through the eyes of the sympathetic young bride and the servants who work for—and agains—her wealthy family, New Order breathlessly traces the collapse of one political system as a more harrowing replacement springs up in its wake.
