Gerardo Salcedo, programmer at the Guadalajara Film Festival, died today at age 61 from undisclosed causes, the festival announced on its social media. Born in Mexico City on February 28, 1959, Salcedo studied Communication Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In 1983, he worked as a film professor at UNAM and joined the staff of the Dirección de Cinematografia of the university. Between 1992 and 2006, he served as programmer and deputy director at the Cineteca Nacional.
In 2007, Salcedo co-founded the film distribution company MVFilms. He also worked as a programmer for the Acapulco and Chihuahua film festivals and was a member of the selection committee for the Expresión en Corto festival in Guanajuato. In 2010, he became deputy director of the Guadalajara Film Festival, and was working as a programmer of fiction content for the festival, as well as director of the Cineteca of the University of Guadalajara until his death.
