Academy Award Mexican director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water) has announced today in a tweet that has invited fellow filmmakers to chat tomorrow Monday, April 20, 12 noon EDT. As he posted, he’ll start a thread on Twitter with some directors about their cultural consumption during the pandemic’s lockdown.
So far, del Toro has confirmed the participation of Jordan Peele (Get Out), Edgar Wright (Baby Driver), James Mangold (Ford v. Ferrari), Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange), Rian Johnson (Knives Out), Issa López (Tigers Are Not Afraid), Lexi Alexander (Lifted), Joe Dante (Gremlins), Brad Bird (The Incredibles), and Peyton Reed (Ant-Man). The Mexican filmmaker has mentioned that the only rule to their fellow director is to talk about their films very minimally.
He additionally mentioned that he’s planning an online conversation, just as his countryman Alfonso Cuarón did this week for foundation in Guadalajara.
1/2 TOMORROW (Monday 20th) at 12 noon EST, I will start a thread with a few filmmaker friends about what they are doing, reading, listening to or watching during these times- Anyone interested, join us for a while. Only rule: keep talking about our films to a minimum.
