The neo-noir film Nightmare Ally, directed by Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, has nabbed three nominations in the 75th annual edition of the British Academy Film Awards, also known as the BAFTAs. Nightare Alley was nominated for Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design.
A remake of the 1947 American noir film of the same name, Nightmare Alley stars Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, and Toni Collette. It tells the story of the charismatic but down-on-his-luck Stanton Carlisle, who endears himself to clairvoyant Zeena and her has-been mentalist husband Pete at a traveling carnival. He crafts a golden ticket to success, using this newly acquired knowledge to grift the wealthy elite of 1940s New York society. With the virtuous Molly loyally by his side, Stanton plots to con a dangerous tycoon (Richard Jenkins) with the aid of a mysterious psychiatrist who might be his most formidable opponent yet.
The winners of the 75th edition of the British Academy Awards, will be announced in a ceremony at Royal Albert Hall in London on 13 March, 2022.
