List of U.S. Latinx and Latin American Film Festivals: June 2022

Summer is here, and the hot weather is bringing four U.S. Latinx and Latin American film festivals, bringing recent films from the region to audiences in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, New York, and Austin, and in some cases, audiences across the country will also be able to catch some of the selections in the online version of these events.

PHILADELPHIA LATINO FILM FESTIVAL
May 29—June 5

The 11th annual edition of the Philadelphia Latino Film Festival is taking place May 29 – June 5 in a hybrid mode. The in-person screenings will take place in numerous locations including the Kimmel Cultural Campus, Taller Puertorriqueño, the University of the Arts, Concilio, the Parkway Central Library, the Barnes Foundation, and the Fleisher Art Memorial. Some highlights include the documentary films Omara by Hugo Pérez, What We Leave Behind by Iliana Sosa, Comala by Gian Cassini, and The Silence of the Mole by Anaïs Taracena,

LOS ANGELES LATINO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
June 1—5

The 21st annual edition of the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) will also be a hybrid experience, with films screened at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre and TCL Chinese 6 in Hollywood, California, and part of the selection will also be available online, on demand. This year’s festival program is comprised of 17 feature films from the U.S., Latin America and Canada. Opening night film is the documentary film Mija by Isabel Castro and the closing film is Gaz Alazraki’s comedy Father of the Bride. Other highlights include the Puerto Rican film Perfume de Gardenias by Macha Colón, the Mexican film The Other Tom by Rodrigo Plá and Laura Santullo, and the Argentine film Wandering Heart by Leonardo Brzezicki.

CINE LAS AMÉRICAS
June 8—12

The 24th annual edition of Cine Las Américas in Austin, Texas will take place June 8-12 with in-person screenings at the Austin Film Society Cinema, the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, adn Nepantla, USA. Highlights include the Costa Rican film Clara Sola by Nathalie Álvarez Mesén, the Bolivian film Utama by Alejandro Loayza Grisi, the Brazilian drama Private Desert by Aly Muritiba, and the Venezuelan film Me & the Beasts by Nico Manzano.

THE AMERICAS FILM FESTIVAL OF NEW YORK
June 17—24

The 9th edition of the Americas Film Festival of New York will screen seven feature films in different locations of the city including Instituto Cervantes, City College Downtown, the Consulates General of Argentina and Colombia, and the National Museum of the American Indian. The festival kicks off on Friday, June 17, with The King of All the World / El rey de todo el mundo, the Mexican musical fantasy by Spanish director Carlos Saura.
