Maite Alberdi's THE ETERNAL MEMORY Wins Best International Documentary Award at Sundance

The Eternal Memory / La memoria infinita, the most recent film by Chilean Academy Award nominated director Maite Alberdi (The Mole Agent) was the winner of the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at the 2023 edition of the Sundance Film Festival.

The film tells the story of Augusto and Paulina, who have been together for 25 years. He has lived with Alzheimer's for almost a decade now, but they have grown closer than ever, and learnt how to be a couple even when he started not recognizing her.

Other Latinx and Latin American winners at this year’s edition of the Sundance Film Festival include Afro-Latina director Michèle Stephenson, who won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize: Documentary for Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project, co-directed by Joe Brewster; and Latina editor Daniela I. Quiroz, who won the Jonathan Oppenheim Editing Award: U.S. Documentary for her work in Going Varsity in Mariachi.

The Eugenio Derbez starrer Radical by Christopher Zalla, about the true story of a teacher In an impoverished Mexican grade school in Matamoros, was the winner of the Festival Favorite Award; and the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award: Acting was presented to Lio Mehiel for his performance in Mutt by Chilean-American director Vuk Lungulov-Klotz.

The 2023 edition of the Sundance Film Festival took place January 19-29 in Park City, Utah.
