Metrograph, the downtown Manhattan arthouse theater, has announced the New York theatrical release of the Colombian film This Time Tomorrow / Mañana a esta hora written and directed by Lina Rodríguez starring Laura Osma, Maruia Shelton, and Francisco Zaldúa. The film, an official selection at the Locarno, Mar del Plata, and Sao Paulo film festivals, will open on Friday, August 4.
Emerging Canadian-Colombian auteur Rodriguez’s sophomore feature, with shades of Ozu and Rohmer, is a quietly wrenching family drama set in Bogotá, about 17-year-old Adelaida, a gorgeous, rebellious force of nature, and her loving parents Lena and Francisco.
Beneath the veneer of their seemingly comfortable middle class life, the absence of her father strains her hardworking mother to shoulder even more domestic responsibility, and exacerbates Adelaida’s emotional and existential teenage uncertainties. One day, unexpected tragedy strikes, and the family must confront their biggest struggle yet.
