Mexican Actress Teresa Sánchez Wins Special Jury Award at Sundance for DOS ESTACIONES

Mexican actress Teresa Sánchez was presented today with the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award: Acting at the 2022 edition of the Sundance Film Festival for her performance in the role of María García, an iron-willed businesswoman who fights the impending collapse of her tequila factory in Dos Estaciones, the debut fiction film by Juan Pablo González.

The jury, composed of British writer-director Andrew Haigh, Egyptian screenwriter and producer Mohamed Hefzy and MoMA film curator La Frances Hui, referred to Sánchez’s performance as a “total standout.” In her acceptance speech, the Mexican actress said that more than award it was “a hug to her soul.”

Sánchez has had a solid career in theater. She made her film debut in Nicolás Pereda’s 2007 debut feature Where Are Their Stories?, and since then she’s worked with him in other titles including Perpetuum Mobile, Summer of Goliath, Greatest Hits, Minotaur, My Skin, Luminous (2015), and more recently in Fauna (2020), which was recently announced as the winner of the Cinema Tropical Award for Best Latin American Film.

She also acted in Lila Avilés’ acclaimed debut feature The Chambermaid, and in the Oscar shortlisted film Prayers for the Stolen by Tatiana Huezo. She has been nominated for the Ariel Awards, for Best Actress for Summer of Goliath, and for Best Supporting Actress for The Chambermaid.
