Mexican Drama LA CAÍDA Starring Karla Souza Wins Two International Emmy Awards

The Mexican drama La Caída / Dive, directed by Argentine filmmaker Lucía Puenzo (XXY, The German Doctor), was the winner of two awards at the 51st annual International Emmy Awards, which were announced at a ceremony in New York City last Monday. The Amazon production received the awards for Best Picture and its protagonist Karla Souza won the award for Best Performance by an Actress.

The film tells the story of Mariel, a veteran competitive diver who started diving when she was eight years old. The pool is her life and she has one last chance at the Olympics. She has trained with Braulio her entire life and trusts him more than she trusts herself. However, when a terrible truth surfaces, the introverted, disciplined, and determined Mariel has to confront her biggest personal dilemma yet and has to choose between Olympic greatness, or healing her painful past.

The International Emmy Awards are part of the extensive range of Emmy Awards for artistic and technical merit for the television industry. Bestowed by the New York–based International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS), the International Emmys are presented in recognition to the best television programs initially produced and aired outside the United States. The awards are presented at the International Emmy Awards Gala, held annually in November in New York City.
