The Mexican film Los Lobos, the second feature film by Samuel Kishi Leopo, has won the Grand Prix of the International Jury in the Generation Kplus competition for the Best Film in the 70th edition of the Berlin Film Festival.

Los Lobos follows eight year old Max and his younger brother Leo, who don't have much, but they have each other and their mother Lucía. And they share a dream as well: To visit Disneyland one day. The family has recently emigrated to the USA from Mexico, and while Lucía tries to finance their new life by doing odd jobs, the two brothers spend their days in their sparsely furnished one-room flat. The walls of the room, which they are forbidden to leave, become a projection screen for imaginative adventures and open a window on their new life. Director Samuel KishiLeopo recalls aspects of his own childhood in Los Lobos and resituates them in a currently highly charged context—brutally honest and yet poetic, melancholic and full of hope.”

The Grand Jury Prize comes with a cash prize of 7,500 euros by the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk (The Children's Charity of Germany). Los Lobos was the only Mexican film participating at the Berlin Film Festival this year,

Additionally, Martina Matzkin’s The Name of the Son / El nombre del hijo from Argentina was presented with the Special Prize of the International Jury in Generation Kplus for the Best Short Film, endowed with 2,500 Euros by the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk (The Children’s Charity of Germany).

The 70th edition of the Berlinale took place February 20 - March 1 in Germany.
