Northern Skies Over Empty Space / El norte sobre el vacío, the third feature film by Mexican director Alejandra Márquez Abella (Semana Santa, The Good Girls) has dropped its trailer in advance of its upcoming world premiere in the Panorama competition at the 72nd edition of the Berlin Film Festival in a few days.
Starring Gerardo Trejoluna, Paloma Petra, Dolores Heredia, Juan Daniel García Treviño, Mayra Hermosillo, and Francisco Barreiro, the film tells the story of Don Reynaldo, who is a recognized hunter in decline. When the threat of losing his heritage and his father's legacy appears, the dynamics with his family, with his employees and with the land, will be dangerously disrupted.
“With a keen sense of how to deploy omens that herald change, Alejandra Márquez Abella portrays an epochal shift in rural Mexico – as seen by characters who are usually relegated to passive supporting roles” says the Berlinale in its description of the film.
The 72nd edition of the Berlin Film Festival will take place February 20-30.
