Netflix has internationally released this week the Chilean film Nobody Knows I'm Here / Nadie sabe que estoy aquí, the debut feature by Gaspar Antillo produced by Pablo and Juan de Dios Larraín, and winner of the Best New Narrative Director at the past edition of the Tribeca Film Festival.
The film starring Jorge García (Lost, Hawaii Five-0), Millaray Lobos, Luis Gnecco, Alejandro Goic and Gastón Pauls tells the story of Memo, a former chubby child singer who, traumatized by his experiences, becomes a recluse at a remote sheep farm on a Chilean island with his uncle. He nurtures his hurt until Martita comes into his life and and slowly starts sweeping the cobwebs out of his mind.
The film has been described as “a peculiar, semisweet, slightly mysterious slow burn” by the New York Times’ film critic Ben Kenigsberg as well as a “curious and intriguing… a fascinating Spanish-language psychological thriller” by IndieWire’s Eric Kohn.
Born in Chile in 1983, director Antillo studied film in the National School of Cinema. He directed music videos for artists such as Dj Raff and Fasta Alfa, and his short film Mala Cara was selected to participate in the Miami Short Film Festival.
