Outfest, the Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival will host the world premiere of Tu Me Manques, Rodrigo Bellott’s own film adaptation of his stage play, which was a sensation in Bolivia few years ago.
Starring Argentine actor Oscar Martinez and Spanish actress and Almodóvar muse Rossy de Palma, Tu Me Manques is an emotional exploration of three men’s struggles to reconcile identity and heritage. Following his son Gabriel’s death, Jorge travels from conservative Bolivia to New York City to confront Gabriel’s boyfriend Sebastian. While the two battle over Jorge’s inability to accept his son, Sebastian channels his grief into a bold new play in honor of his lost love, in which Gabriel’s inner turmoil is transformed into an eye-popping gay fantasia.
Born in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Bellott helmed his 2001 breakout hit, Sexual Dependency, which won the Fipresci Award in Locarno and screened in more than 65 film festivals around the world. It also marked the rebirth of Bolivian cinema as the country’s first official selection competing for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2004 Academy Awards. In 2007, Variety named Bellott as one of the Top Ten Latin American talents to watch. He later produced his first American horror film, We Are What We Are, directed by Jim Mickle. The film premiered at the Director’s Fortnight section at the Cannes Film Festival.
The 2019 edition of Outfet will take place July 18-28 in Los Angeles.
