Popular Cuban Actor Enrique Molina Dies at Age 77

Cuban actor Enrique Molina died yesterday at age 78 in Havana of complications from COVID. He was a popular actor who had a successful career in film, television and theater. We acted in over 30 feature films working with numerous directors including Juan Carlos Tabío, Juan Carlos Cremata, Jorge Perugorría, Gerardo Chijona, and Fernando Pérez.

Born in the province of Artemisa on October 31, 1943, he lived in Santiago de Cuba where he began his acting career. In 1968, he joined the Conjunto Dramático de Oriente theatrical company, and that same year he started working in television. In 1970 he moved to Havana.

He made his film debut in the 1973 film The Man from Maisinicu / El hombre de Maisinicú by Manuel Pérez. Other film titles include Alice in Wondertown / Alicia en el pueblo de Maravillas by Daniel Díaz Torres; A Paradise Under the Stars / Un paraíso bajo las estrellas (2000) by Gerardo Chijona; Playing Swede / Hacerse el sueco (2001) by Daniel Díaz Torres; Horn of Plenty / El cuerno de la abundancia (2008) by Juan Carlos Tabío, Acorazado by Álvaro Curiel (2010), Amor crónico (2012) by Jorge Perugorría; and Contigo pan y cebolla (2014) by Juan Carlos Cremata. His last movie was Before the Ferry Arrives (2018) directed by Juan Caunedo Domínguez, Raul Escobar Delgado, and Vladimir García. In 2016, the Havana Film Festival New York played tribute to the work of the actor with a special sidebar.
