Few days ago, the Gotham Film & Media Institute announced the films and series for its annual Project Market, which includes projects by U.S. Latinx creators Diana Peralta and Carlos López Estrada, and Spanish-Chilean director Théo Court. Taking place during September’s Gotham Week at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the annual sales and development forum connects creators to distributors, financiers, and other industry decision-makers.

Peralta is a Dominican-American director and writer from New York City who was featured in Filmmaker Magazine's 2019 class of "25 New Faces of Independent Film." Her 2019 debut feature, De lo Mío, earned critical acclaim and was distributed by HBO. Her new project, No Love Lost portrays a troubled young woman bringing her enigmatic boyfriend home to meet her family, her devoted but insular sisters reveal the extremes they will go to protect one another. She currently teaches directing at Columbia University's Film MFA program.

Academy Award nominated Mexican filmmaker and producer Carlos López Estrada (Blindspotting and Raya and the Last Dragon) will present Dìdi (弟弟), written and directed by Sean Wang. The film project tells the story of an impressionable thirteen-year-old Taiwanese American boy who learns what his family can’t teach him: how to skate, how to flirt, and how to love your mom.

Chilean filmmaker Court, winner of the Best Director Award in the Orizzonti competition at the 2019 Venice Film Festival for his debut feature White on White / Blanco en blanco, will be presenting his newest project Three Black Nights, which follows a peasant who asks the devil for the death of his wife’s lover in a move that overturns the colonial structures that endure in Chile.

The Project Market is part of Gotham Week, which this year will include the annual conference exploring the art and business of film and media — plus the inaugural Gotham Week Expo, which will showcase thought leadership in media and highlight the work of The Gotham’s Expanding Communities, Owning It, and Gotham EDU programs. Past Gotham Weeks have seen industry attendees make early connections with the creators of recent and upcoming releases, including Aftershock, Beba, Nanny, Resurrection, Ascension, and Free Chol Soo Lee.
