Rodrigo Prieto, America Ferrera, and Colman Domingo Earn Nominations in the 2024 Critics Choice Awards

The recently announced 2024 Critics Choice Awards nominations have highlighted the exceptional achievements of Latinx talent, including actors Domingo Colman and America Ferrera, and cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto.

Afro-Latino actor Domingo, of Belizean and Guatemalan descent, secured a nomination for Best Actor for his performance in the title role of Rustin, the biopic by George C. Wolfe. The film tells the story of Bayard Rustin, advisor to Martin Luther King Jr., who dedicates his life to the quest for racial equality, human rights and worldwide democracy. However, as an openly gay Black man, he is all but erased from the civil rights movement he helped build.

Ferrera, of Honduran descent, has been recognized in the Best Supporting Actress category for her work in Barbie by Greta Gerwig. She plays the role of Gloria, a real-life mother who helps Barbie return to her fictional world. Ferrera delivers one of the most impactful moments in the movie by giving an emotional monologue. Ferrara's career has been marked by versatility and a commitment to authentic storytelling.

And renowned Mexican director of photography Prieto earned not one, but two nominations for Best Cinematography for his work in Barbie and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. This is the first time that a cinematographer nabs two nominations the same year at the Critics Choice Awards. Prieto's work behind the lens has graced numerous acclaimed films, contributing to the visual storytelling that captivates audiences worldwide.

The winners of the 29th annual Critics Choice Awards will be announced in a ceremony on Sunday, January 14, 2024, which will air on television. For a comprehensive list of all the Critics Choice Awards nominees, you can visit Deadline's coverage of the 2024 Critics Choice Awards Nominations.
