Tatiana Huezo and Lin-Manuel Miranda Nab DGA Awards Nominations

Mexican director Tatiana Huezo and U.S. Latinx director Lin-Manuel Miranda were announced today as two of the five nominees for the 74th Annual Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in First-Time Feature Film. Huezo was nominated for her debut fiction film Prayers for the Stolen / Noche de fuego, while Miranda was nominated for his musical Tick, Tick… Boom!.

“New voices, fresh storytelling and unique perspectives bring exciting energy to our craft, and keep our industry evolving into the future,” said Directors Guild of America President Lesli Linka Glatter in announcing this year’s nominees. “That’s what this award is all about and we’re so proud to shine a spotlight on the directorial achievements of these remarkable first-time directors. We can’t wait to see what’s next from these profoundly talented filmmakers.”

Born in 1972 in El Salvador, Huezo moved to Mexico City at age five. A graduate of the prestigious Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC), she's directed the landmark documentary feature films The Tiniest Place / El lugar más pequeño and Tempestad. Her debut fiction film Prayers for the Stolen had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won a Special Jury Mention, and was recently shortlisted in the Oscar competition for Best International Feature.

A Pulitzer Prize, Grammy, Emmy, Tony Award-winning composer, lyricist, and actor, Miranda is the creator and original star of Broadway’s Hamilton and In the Heights, and the recipient of the 2015 MacArthur Foundation Award and 2018 Kennedy Center Honors. Tick, Tick… Boom! is based on the autobiographical musical by playwright Jonathan Larson, and is the story of an aspiring composer in New York City who is worried he made the wrong career choice, whilst navigating the pressures of love and friendship.

The winners of the 74th Annual DGA Awards will be announced at a ceremony to take place on Saturday, March 12, 2022 in Beverly Hills.
