After THE SECRET AGENT, Gabriel Mascaro's THE BLUE TRAIL Arrives in U.S. Theaters April 3

Dekanalog has announced the North American theatrical release of The Blue Trail (O Último Azul), the latest feature from visionary Brazilian filmmaker Gabriel Mascaro (Neon BullDivine Love), winner of the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Building on the international momentum of Brazilian cinema—propelled by the global success of I'm Still Here and The Secret AgentThe Blue Trail further cements the country's presence on the international stage and continues Mascaro's tradition of visually arresting and socially resonant cinema.

The striking dystopian drama will open in theaters on Friday, April 3 at the Angelika Film Center in New York City and the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles, with a national expansion to follow. A special sneak preview screening will take place at the Angelika Film Center on Monday, March 23, as part of the inaugural Art House Cinema Week New York.

A standout at major festivals including Toronto, Busan, Zurich, BFI London, Palm Springs, and Guadalajara, The Blue Trail follows Tereza, a 77-year-old woman who has spent her entire life in a small industrialized town in the Amazon. One day, she receives an official government order requiring her to relocate to a remote senior housing colony—an isolated settlement where the elderly are sent to "enjoy" their final years so the younger generation can focus on productivity and economic growth.

Refusing to accept this imposed fate, Tereza embarks on a transformative journey through the rivers and tributaries of the Amazon to fulfill one final wish before her freedom is taken away—a decision that will change her destiny forever.

Anchored by a powerful lead performance from Denise Weinberg and co-starring Rodrigo Santoro, the film unfolds as a lyrical, immersive journey celebrating resilience, intergenerational connection, and the courage to defy ageist and authoritarian constraints.
