In lieu of the postponement of its 2020 edition, the Colombian International Film Festival New York has announced a new initiative presenting the special digital premiere of titles from previous editions. The festival said will screen around three films per week, and each film will be screened for free, with English subtitles, and only once on the streaming platform Boonet. The new digital series starts this Thursday, March 19 with the streaming of the documentary film Porro Hecho en Colombia, it will be streamed at 8pm EST. Grammy nominated artist Adriana Lucía, narrates and directs Porro Hecho en Colombia that dives into the world of the Porro, the traditional musical style from the Caribbean region of Colombia. Lucía takes the audience through a journey that celebrates its indigenous, European and African origins, the musical styles of the region, and the revived interest and future of a rhythm that will have you tapping your feet.
Other titles announced to be streamed in a near future are the Sundance entry All of Your Dead Ones /Todos tus muertos (2011) by Carlos Moreno, La gente de la universal (1991) by Felipe Aljure, Field of Amapolas / Jardín de amapolas by Juan Carlos Melo (2012), Siempreviva by Klych López (2015), and Pizarro (2015) by Simón Hernández, among others.
Additionally, Juan Carvajal, founder and director of the film festival announced that the Colombian Film Festival New York has also partnered with the TV network Caracol to broadcast some additional titles.
The 2020 edition of the Colombian International Film Festival has been postponed to August 6-9, from its original March 26-29 date.
