Three Latin American Films Awarded at Rotterdam

Three Latin American films, from Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, were awarded at the 2017 edition of the Rotterdam, it was announced today. Director Niles Atallah from Chile was the winner of the Special Jury Award for Rey in the HIV Tiger Awards competition. Experimenting with puppets, masks and stop-motion animation, “the results culminated in this astonishing work of art”, in the enthusiastic words of the jury. 

The Argentinean four-hour epic La Flor (Parte 1) by Mariano Llinás was the winner of the Audience Award for the highest-rated Hubert Bals Fund-supported production. The FIPRESCI Award, given by international film journalists and is presented to the Best Film from the Bright Future program having its world première in Rotterdam, was presented to the Brazilian film Pela Janela by Caroline Leone “for the way it intermingles emotional and political spheres without being overly demonstrative,” said the jury.
