Toronto Will Host the North American Premiere of Michel Franco's MEMORY

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) announced today the initial sixty films that will take part in their Gala and Special Presentations programs, which includes the North American premiere of Memory, the eighth and most recent film by Mexican director Michel Franco (Chronic, New Order), starring Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard.

The film, which will we suppose will have its world premiere in the official Golden Lion competition at the upcoming 80th anniversary edition of the Venice Film Festival, was shot in New York City, and is a dramatic study of memory, identity, and trust, that tells the story of a social worker who leads a simple and structured life: her daughter, her job, her AA meetings. This is blown open when Saul follows her home from their high school reunion. Their surprise encounter will profoundly impact both of them as they open the door to the past.

In addition to Memory, which will screen in the Special Presentations program, TIFF also announced the North American premiere of the Argentine film The Rescue / El rapto by Daniela Goggi in the same section. The fourth feature film by Daniela Goggi starring Rodrigo de la Serna, Julieta Zylberberg and Germán Palacios, follows Julio, who returns with his family to Argentina after the downfall of the brutal dictatorship that overpowered long-standing democracy. Things soon take an ugly turn as his brother is kidnapped and Julio becomes the lead negotiator with the criminals.

The 48th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival will take place September 7-17, 2023.
