Trailer Exclusive: Daniel Nolasco Unleashes Bold Queer Drama ONLY GOOD THINGS at Guadalajara and Frameline

Only Good Things / Apenas Coisas Boas, the latest film by Daniel Nolasco (Dry Wind, Mr. Leather), will have its world premiere in the Fiction and Maguey competitions at the 40th Guadalajara Film Festival in Mexico, followed by its U.S. premiere at the 49th Frameline Film Festival in San Francisco, and its local Brazilian premiere at the 14th Olhar de Cinema Film Festival in Curitiba.

Set in Catalão—a rural region of Batalha dos Neves in 1984, marked by expansive crop fields, a scattering of farms, and bisected by the São Marcos River—the film follows Antonio, who lives alone tending his smallholding. One day, he encounters Marcelo, a solitary motorcyclist injured in an accident while passing through the area. Antonio tends to Marcelo’s wounds, and the two men fall in love, embarking on a relationship that transforms them both—while also disrupting the lives they once knew.

“Fusing the gay sensibilities of Tom of Finland, Alain Guiraudie, Tennessee Williams, and Pedro Almodóvar into a cinematic landscape all his own, Nolasco proves to be a subversive romantic,” writes Frameline.

Nolasco holds degrees in Cinema and Audiovisual from the Fluminense Federal University and in History from the Federal University of Goiás. He has written and directed more than ten short films that have screened and won awards at festivals worldwide. His first documentary feature, Paulistas (2017), was followed by Mr. Leather (2019), which played at BAFICI, Frameline, Montreal International Documentary Festival, and FICViña. His fiction debut, Dry Wind (2020), premiered at the 70th Berlinale and went on to screen at over 80 festivals. Only Good Things (2025) is his second fiction feature.

Starring Lucas Drummond, Fernando Libonati, Liev Carlos, and Renata Carvalho, the film is represented worldwide by the Italian-based sales agency The Open Reel.
