Netflix today launched the official trailer and poster for the gripping drama In Her Place / El lugar de la otra, the first fiction feature film by Oscar-nominee Maite Alberdi (The Eternal Memory and The Mole Agent), produced by Fabula Films, the company founded by brothers Pablo and Juan de Dios Larraín.
Based on the true story of a murder at the hands of María Carolina Geel in the Crillón Hotel, Alberdi continues her exploration of the intimate worlds and the rich internal life of her protagonists, showing under her personal stamp the reality of two women in Chile from the mid-20th century: Mercedes and María Carolina Geel. With different life stories and professions, they face the complexities of being a woman in a society in which they are made invisible.
Set in Chile, 1955, when the popular writer María Carolina Geel kills her lover, the case captivates Mercedes, the shy paralegal of the judge in charge of the case. After visiting the writer's apartment, Mercedes begins to question her life, identity, and the role of women in society as she finds an oasis of freedom in that home.
Written by Inés Bortagaray and Paloma Salas, the production is Alberdi's cinematographic reinterpretation of one of the stories from the book Las homicidas by Alia Trabucco Zerán. In Her Place, stars national actresses Elisa Zulueta and Francisca Lewin, who are joined by Marcial Tagle, Gabriel Urzúa, Pablo Macaya, and a great cast.
In Her Place will be shown in some cinemas in Chile in September and will arrive worldwide on Netflix on October 11, after passing through the San Sebastián International Film Festival, where it will compete in the official section.
