Venezuelan Director Lorenzo Vigas Is Appointed to Venice Jury

Venezuelan director Lorenzo Vigas will return to the Venice Film Festival one year after his historic Golden Lion win for his debut feature Desde allá / From Afar to participate as a jury member of the official competition at the 73rd edition of the Italian film festival.

Vigas will join American artist Laurie Anderson, American filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer, English actress Emma Arterton, Italian writer Giancarlo de Cataldo, German actress Nina Hoss, French actress Chiara Mastroianni, and Chinese actress/director Zhao Wei in the jury, which will be presided by British director Sam Mendes.

Vigas' From Afar, about a closed-off middle-aged gay man who cruises the Caracas streets for young rough trade, became the first Latin American production to ever win the Golden Lion, the top prize at the Venice Film Festival.

The 73rd edition of the Venice Film Festival will take place August 31-September 10.
