I’m Still Here / Ainda Estou Aqui, the latest film by Brazilian director Walter Salles, won the Best Screenplay Award at the 81st Venice Film Festival. The award was presented to screenwriters Heitor Lorega and Murilo Hauser for their adaptation of Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s book of the same name.
Starring Fernanda Montenegro, Maeve Jinkings, Fernanda Torres, and Selton Mello, I’m Still Here tells the true story of the Paiva family and their five children. In 1970s Rio de Janeiro, during the military dictatorship, former deputy Rubens Paiva was taken from his home by soldiers to be interrogated. He was never seen again. The search for truth lasted 30 long years, and just as the answers began to surface, Eunice Paiva, his wife, started showing the first signs of Alzheimer's disease.
After its Venice premiere, I’m Still Here will make its North American debut at both the Toronto and New York Film Festivals. The 81st edition of the Venice Film Festival took place from August 28 to September 7.
