Streaming platform Hulu has premiered the short film Daughters of Witches / Hijas de brujas directed by Faride Schroeder and starring Mexican Academy Award nominated actress Yalitza Aparicio (Roma) and Dolores Heredia. The film, which is streaming for free as part of the platform ‘Huluween’ series, explores the supernatural, the mysticism of Mexican legends and the wisdom of the traditional healers from a female perspective.
The film tells the story of Clara, played by Aparicio, a woman who resides in the United States and returns to Mexico to introduce her newborn daughter to her family. Clara and her baby have to participate in an ancient family ritual in the middle of the forest, even against Clara's husband's prejudice and her own apprehension as a new mother.
