Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN
(Alfonso Cuarón, Mexico, 2001, 106 min. In Spanish with English subtitles)

In collaboration with Cinema Tropical, Sag Harbor Cinema is proud to present a special viewing of Y Tu Mamá También, the landmark film by director Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Roma). A raunchy rode comedy starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, Y Tu Mamá También combined sexually explicit subject matter with emotional warmth to offer a moving look at human desire and the nature of friendship.

The film follows Mexico City teenagers Julio and Tenoch, best friends from different classes who, after their girlfriends jet off to Italy for the summer, are bewitched by a gorgeous older woman from Spain they meet at a wedding. When she agrees to accompany them on a trip to a faraway beach, the three form an increasingly intense and sensual alliance that ultimately strips them both physically and emotionally bare.

The screening is the first of a series of events SHC is planning as a tribute to the 20th anniversary of Cinema Tropical, the leading presenter of Latin American cinema in the United States. Introduced by CT founder Carlos A. Gutiérrez, this  screening will be followed by a Q&A with Carlos Cuarón, the co-writer of the film. Free reception to follow in the Green Room, sponsored by Hornitos.

Panel “Cinema para Todos - Latin American Cinema Today and Tomorrow.”
The screening will be preceded by the free panel “Cinema Para Todos - Latin American Cinema Today and Tomorrow.” These last two decades have witnessed a remarkable cinema renaissance throughout Latin America, as well as the emergence of talented Latinx filmmakers in the U.S., some of whom live on the East End. Cinema Tropical's Co-Founder and Executive Director Carlos A. Gutiérrez will be in conversation with Carlos Sandoval–award-winning filmmaker and Express News Group columnist, and Minerva Perez–Executive Director of OLA (Organización Latino-Americana) a Latino focused nonprofit supporting arts, education and advocacy on the East End and a Sag Harbor resident. The conversation will provide an overview of this golden period of Latin cinema and its future direction, including the new wave of US Latinx filmmakers.

The talk will be introduced by Sag Harbor Cinema's Artistic Director Giulia D'Agnolo Vallan, and moderated by Cinema Tropical's Director of Strategic Partnerships and Special Projects and Sag Harbor resident, Mary Jane Marcasiano.  In English and Spanish with translation by OLA Board Member Ana Kestler
