Part true-crime thriller, part procedural, El Equipo delves into the fascinating story of Dr. Clyde Snow, the legendary US forensic scientist, and a group of Latin American students who together would ultimately change the course of forensic science and human rights. El Equipo, the fifth feature documentary by two-time Emmy Award nominee Bernardo Ruiz (Reportero, 2012; Kingdom of Shadows, 2015), begins with the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team revealing the truth about disappeared loved ones to their Argentine families, generating evidence that leads to the conviction of hundreds of perpetrators.
Through a broad range of precious archival material and present-day testimonies, the team continues to reveal the truths of genocide concerning many authoritarian regimes around the world, such as the El Mozote massacre in El Salvador. An epic journey through some of the most high-profile cases of systemic impunity around the world, and the need to bring closure to the longing families of the disappeared.
