Alejandro González Iñárritu and Santiago Mitre Will Compete for Venice's Golden Lion

Two Latin American films were announced this morning in the official lineup at the 79th edition of the Venice Film Festival, competing for the Golden Lion for Best Film: Bardo, falsa crónica de unas cuantas verdades / Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, by Alejandro González Iñárritu, and Argentina, 1985 by Santiago Mitre.

A Netflix release starring Daniel Giménez Cacho (Zama), Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths is a nostalgic comedy set against an epic personal journey. It chronicles the story of a renowned Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker who returns home and works through an existential crisis as he grapples with his identity, familial relationships, the folly of his memories as well as the past of his country. He seeks answers in his past to reconcile who he is in the present.

Starring Ricardo Darín, Peter Lanzani, Argentina, 1985 follows a team of lawyers take on the heads of Argentina's bloody military dictatorship during the eighties in a battle against odds and a race against time.

Additionally, two other Latin American films will have its world premiere in the Orizzonti competition at Venice: the Argentine film Trenque Lauquen by Laura Citarella and the Chilean fil Blanquita by Fernando Guzzoni. The 79th edition of the Venice Film Festival will take place August 31 - September 10.
