Dominican Doc JEFFREY Wins Discovery Award at Toronto

The Dominican documentary film Jeffrey, the directorial feature debut by Yanillys Pérez, was awarded Dropbox Discovery Programme Filmmakers Award at TIFF, it was announced today.

The feature documentary follows on Jeffrey, a 12-year-old street windshield washer in Santo Domingo who yearns to become a reguetón singer, and with the help of his older brother composes and records songs about his life, his neighborhood, and his dreams for the future.

Pérez, is writer, producer, and actor, she appeared in Olivier Assayas' Carlos the Jackal (2010), and has directed the short films A Dog Named Emily (2009), Del otro lado (2011), Techos Rotos (2014), and Firefly (2016).
