GUILLERMO DEL TORO'S PINOCCHIO Wins Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio was the winner of the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature this evening, marking a second win for the Mexican filmmaker after he won the Golden Globe for Best Director of a Feature Film for The Shape of Water in 2018. The Netflix film directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson also made history by becoming the first streamer film ever to win the category at the Golden Globes.

In Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio , the Oscar-winning Mexican filmmaker reinvents the classic story of the wooden puppet who was brought to life in a stunning stop-motion musical tale. The film was also nominated for the Golden Globes for Best Score - Motion Picture and Best Song - Motion Picture.

In his acceptance speech, del Toro said that “It’s been a great year for cinema” and reaffirmed that “animation is cinema.”

The winners of the 80th Golden Globes Awards were announced tonight at a ceremony in Beverly Hills, California.
