Four-time Oscar-winning Mexican director Alejandro González Iñarritu (Birdman, The Revenant) is currently shooting his most recent film in Mexico City. Tentatively titled Limbo, the film stars actor Daniel Giménez Cacho, who played the title role in Lucrecia Martel’s Zama, and is being photographed by the French-Iranian cinematographer Iranian Darius Khondji, who shot Seven and Amour.
The 57-year-old Mexican filmmaker has returned to shoot in Mexico, 21 years after his acclaimed debut feature Amores perros. According to Mexican newspaper Reforma, which reported the film’s production in the downtown area of the nation’s capital, the film written by Iñárritu is a drama in the form of a fable in which the filmmaker reflects on the political and social modernity of the country.
The newspaper also reports that the production will extend for five months in the downtown area and in the Churubusco studios, with a plan to release the film later this year. Other talent involved with the project are producer Tita Lombardo (New Order, Amores Perros), and Oscar-winning art director Eugenio Caballero.
