Maite Alberdi Nabs Second Oscar Nomination

Maite Alberdi, who made history as the first Chilean woman to receive an Academy Award nomination in 2020 for The Mole Agent, has earned a second Oscar nomination this morning for her latest film, The Eternal Memory / La memoria infinita. She also became the first Latin American woman to earn the nomination for Best Documentary, twice.

Winner of the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival, and produced by Alberdi, Juan de Dios Larraín, Pablo Larraín, and Rocío Jadue, The Eternal Memory unfolds a profound and moving love story that expertly balances vibrant individual and collective remembrance with the enduring strength of an unbreakable human bond.

The documentary chronicles the lives of Augusto and Paulina, a couple who have shared 25 years of love. Eight years ago, their lives were forever altered by Augusto’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Despite being one of Chile’s most prominent cultural commentators and television presenters, Augusto is no stranger to building a repository of memories.

Now, he channels that expertise into preserving his own identity, aided by his beloved Paulina, a famous actress and former Chilean Minister of Culture who has always engaged with her husband in a ceaselessly inventive manner. Day by day, the couple confronts this challenge head-on, relying on the tender affection and shared sense of humor that remarkably remains fully intact.

The winners of the 96th edition of the Academy Awards will be announced on Sunday, March 10
